Company History
Losco Leather CC is a long-standing family run business located in the warm and sunny coastal city of Durban, South Africa. The name Losco comes from merging Lower (Lo) South (so) Coast (co), and this is where we began our journey. We have been operating for over seven decades serving fishermen locally and globally. Under our Mastergrip brand, we manufacture high quality fishing accessories to empower anglers to conquer the waters and reel in the greatest catches.
Founded in the 1950’s by the avid fisherman Bhagoo Daya and his industrious wife Laxmi, Losco Leather began as a hobby where Bhagoo carefully handcrafted his own fishing buckets to use while fishing on the coast of Port Shepstone in Kwa-Zulu Natal. With the help of Laxmi and her steady hands, which cut and sewed each fishing rod bucket, they were able to start a business. Bhagoo Daya’s unique fishing bucket design included hand stitching and was made from genuine leather. As such, Losco Leather was born, as more and more fishermen fell in love with these original products.
As the years passed, his son, Vijay Daya inherited his father’s love for fishing and took the family business to new heights. Supported and guided by his enterprising wife, Dulari, they achieved great success. With a move to Durban the company expanded, and the product range grew. Vijay’s unrivalled craftsmanship and attention to detail quickly earned him a reputation of producing gear that stood the test of time.
Now, we, the husband-and-wife team – Pravesh and Deepta, run the business producing a large variety of products that cater to the needs of all South Africans. We continue the tradition of working closely together as a family, while putting our customers first. Our aim is to further continue the growth and expansion of the family-business while creating local job opportunities in South Africa. We are committed to delivering only the best fishing products while maintaining close relationships with all our customers.
Today, Mastergrip is recognised as a leading brand in the fishing industry. The brand demonstrates the enduring legacy of the Daya family’s passion for fishing and commitment to excellence. Our factory, once a modest home garage workshop, now boasts state of the art machinery and skilled artisans who carry on the tradition of crafting fishing gear for all fishermen.
